Getting your CV into good shape is only half the job. The other half happens out loud, in a room or on a call, when someone asks you to walk through a gap in your timeline or explain why you left your last role — and reading your bullet points back to yourself in your head doesn't prepare you for that the way actually saying the words does. Recruiter Mode is cvme's answer to that gap: a spoken mock interview with an AI recruiter, built directly from the CV you've already written.

Meet Ava

Ava is cvme's interview persona — she reads your actual CV before the conversation starts, so her questions are about your real experience, not a generic script. Mention a five-year gap or a jump between industries and she'll ask about it, the same way a real recruiter would. The interview opens with a short spoken greeting and takes it from there, one question at a time.

It's voice, not a chat window

Recruiter Mode is a genuine spoken conversation: you talk, Ava listens, and she talks back — no typing required, though you can always fall back to text if you'd rather. Everything runs through models loaded directly in your browser: speech-to-text to hear you, a small language model to decide what Ava says next, and text-to-speech to voice it, with a short loading bar the first time each one downloads.

You can actually interrupt her

The detail that makes it feel like a real conversation rather than a phone tree: Ava is always listening, even while she's mid-sentence. Start talking over her — to redirect the question, add something, or just jump in — and she stops immediately and lets you take the floor, instead of finishing a canned line first. That back-and-forth is deliberately the whole point; a mock interview that can't be interrupted doesn't teach you much about handling a real one.

Nothing about it leaves your browser

Because the CV data, the interview model, and the audio all run locally, none of it is ever uploaded anywhere to make Recruiter Mode work — the same local-first approach cvme uses for building the CV in the first place. You can run through as many practice rounds as you want without a transcript of your answers sitting on a server somewhere.

Try it before the real thing

Open any CV in cvme and look for the recruiter icon next to the chat bar — that's Ava. A few rounds before an actual interview is enough to notice where your answers ramble, where you go quiet, and which stories you haven't quite figured out how to tell yet, all before it counts.
